Welcome to Monday

a new week…the sun is shinning, birds are chirping(both start to dang early in the morning if I’m being honest)  I should be raring to go, but instead I’m feeling icky and really really warm.  hmm could it be the flu I’ve so carefully avoided all winter has snuck up on me now?  I suppose only time will tell.  In the meantime I’m going to try to go through the regular routine

like mamma always says “Fake it til’ you make it‘.  Ok, so maybe my mom doesn’t say that but surely someone’s did and that was one smart mamma.

It was a great weekend, I spent Saturday scrapping with the most talented group of crafters, seriously the list of design teams, pubs and accolades for this group is probably a mile long. So, so glad I stepped out of my sheltered box and went to a similar group oh those many years ago.  The group continues to grow and change, but the talent never stops.  Check out the amazing Liz Qualman’s blog for a better recap and photos.

I came home with 3 finished layouts and once I get them photographed and posted there will be no doubt who I was sitting next to and what can I say, some of her style rubbed of on me, as it does every time we’re together.

Yesterday was a chore day, which I decided to pretty much ignore in favor of sitting on the porch and reading an entertaining book, Bulletproof Mascara, about a clandestine organization determined to make to world a better place for women around the world under cover of a cosmetics company. I’ll never think of Mary Kay makeup in the same way again.

Speaking of reading that brings me to the layout for the day, you didn’t think I’d have you read all this and not have something crafty to share, did you? Ok maybe you did since I do have a history of rambling, but not this time.

Love this picture of my nephew Connor ‘reading’ , a great reminder that a love for reading starts at a young age.

What was the last book you read? Feel free to share even the cheesiest of romances, because well, I’ve probably read them too, unless they’re historical or involve vampires, I just can’t go there with you, but I won’t judge, I promise.  How could I, I just read something called Bulletproof Mascara.

Happy Monday.

  1. Mary Kay

My two most recent books were “Mennonite In a Little Black Dress,” which I admired in part for the author’s positive attitude through adversity, and “Lit,” by Mary Karr. Can’t say “positive attitude” comes to mind when I think of Mary Karr, but she’s a masterful writer and it did make me ponder the nature of addiction in all its forms. No trashy romances OR vampires here; just can’t do it.

I love your blog, Christyn – and what a terrific layout and picture!

Last book I read – Cold Mountain – finished it over the weekend.

  3. I had such a wonderful time on Saturday! It was so nice to see you again, Christyn. We must do this more often because once every 8 mos. isn’t enough! :o) As for reading… hmmm. I just read Amanda Cabot’s Paper Roses and Scattered Petals last week. They were really good. Just light, fluffy reading, which I need sometimes. I am currently reading True Compass by Ted Kennedy. I am really enjoying reading all of the inside stories of the Kennedy Years. He had a lot of problems in his younger life, but I love stories of redemption and second-chances. And, I must confess, I did read the Twilight Series last summer – in one week. I am pathetic, I admit. It was fluffy and cheesy, but kept me entertained while the the kidlets played in their pool. :o) Hugs to you! I hope you are feeling better soon and that you DON’T have the flu.

Another superb layout! I’m currently reading Big Boned by Meg Cabot. Not sure I will read any more of hers. Kind of plods along. The last book I read that I loved was Water for Elephants. A must read! I have a question for you… How do you photograph your layouts so well that you can see all the details and no background. I’m sure it’s something very simple, but I have no idea! Thanks!

  5. No historical or vamps? Well, darn! But I guess what I’m reading right now isn’t either… JR Ward’s ‘Covet’… might be up your alley. Of course her famous series has vamps, but they aren’t too vampy, you may want to try it too! And ditto on the wonderful Saturday with the girls – I was so honored to be a part of it. That place was humming with creative vibes… (hugs)

  8. i had a great time Saturday too. I love my seatmate. She keeps me laughing! I just finished up a “teen” book called Catching Fire. It’s the second book in the Hunger Game series. Such a good read.

  9. The layout is absolutely adorable 🙂 books? I just finished -return to sender by Zoe Barnes 🙂

ps : you thought right. Mr Husband worked on that 14 hour flight from Milan to Singapore, then I drove him 5 hours north to KL, and he ran his marathon that very night. LOL. He’s crazy..
