perhaps the best “Single Ladies” Parody yet
Monthly Archives: May 2010
there are days when I want to give up
and then there are days like yesterday, when it’s all worth it
every second of frustration is erased with tears and cheers that come with watching 154 kids walk across the stage and receive their diplomas
for me and most of my friends high graduation was a given, I didn’t even have to try.
But these kids are different…
one saw her father murdered in front of her
one lost her best friends in a car accident that she survived
one who took 7 years to get through highschool
several in the foster system because parents are incarcerated
a few that have been incarcerated themselves
many who had been expelled from previous school
and most who had or at least thought of giving up
but they all made it…and we don’t make it easy, not only do they have to earn credits in the core they have to receive minimum scores on the same test community colleges use to decide what courses to place students in — the minimums are set so if they go on and 80% of them do to college they won’t have to waste time and money on remediation courses.
So cheers to you the Hope Online Graduating Class of 2010, we are so very proud of you.
PS…Let Summer begin! One of my favorite things about summer “So You Think You Can Dance” I decided since I used the Kate Bush/Maxwell Song for my post title it’s fitting that I post the video of one of my all time favorite routines.
before there was bejeweled blitz
before there was farmville
before the Mario brothers tried to save the princess
and donkey kong did what ever donkey kong does
and before tetris
there was this
Happy Birthday Pac-Man
and kudos to the kids @ google for recognizing this special day
and one of my favorites has always been Tupelo Honey.
Once upon a time(say 2007, maybe 08) I did a guest host for the now defunct(sigh) blog Journaler’s Junction hosted by my fab friends Emily and Heather, my chosen prompt: song lyrics. The ubertalented Lisa Dickinson did a layout using the lyrics from this very song.
Fast forward two years and along comes the May Studio Calico kit with a honey comb paper. Since I haven’t been scrapping much the paper went into the storage bag with little love, then last night I had an idea to cut the paper in the way you see it here and then I noticed the name.
The lightbulb went off…now it was my time to immortalize this great song.
I love it when a plan comes together.
that I had this cute shot of Sienna in Easter Outfit #2 handy was a nice bonus.
well, get used to it…ok not really for the long term just until the end of the month or so.
Graduation (my biggest work project of the year) is on the 27th and we have more grads than ever before YAY! But it’s lots and lots of work. Plus a few other projects and responsibilities make for more work less play and a very tired me…thanks to not only the workload but the insomnia of worrying about said work. vicious cycle…
But I did manage some time to squeak out my Project 12 layout for May (of April stuff). One of my favorite things in this months SC kit was this pack of fun diecuts, etc from K&Co. Lots of little bits and pieces of goodness that are super fun just to look through. I feel sort of like a preschool girl who carries around and sorts bits of nothing. I love to spread them out on my table and look at each piece, shuffle it around on a layout and then put it back in the bucket. Not an SC kit receiver? (well you should be, but that’s a topic for another day) you can also get this pack of fun at Michael’s.
Since my right side of my brain is a little rusty, I went to one of my go-to places for inspiration — Designer Digitals and based the design on this template.
My other newish favorite thing is the tape from Pink Paislee, it seems to be making its way onto several layouts lately. On this one I layered it on some OA paper (because I really don’t need another paper with dressmaker patterns) and the cut out the letters with the slice and then peeled some of the tape off.
can’t think of a better day for a quick post and layout about bed head, can you?
even with wacky bed head hair she’s still darn cute.
if you’ve ever been a preschool teacher or been subjected to long hours of children’s television you may get a song stuck in your head after viewing this layout.
Totally not my fault…and if you have no idea what I’m talking about, well consider yourself lucky.
My SIL sent me some pictures of my cutie nephew Connor to help with putting together a scrapbook of his first year. He’s 3 now and a sibling is on the way so it’s time to get crackin’.
This may have been my favorite in the bunch…
Saw this quote in this month’s Creating Keepsakes mag and thought it was definitely share worthy
“Success is not so much what we have as it is what we are”
and speaking of what we are, I actually made a layout about me…my friend Arleigh said to me about a month ago ‘Do you ever scrap adults or yourself?’ Um no, because let’s face it, they’re just not as cute. But along came the scrap your avatar challenge at Studio Calico for National Scrapbooking Day(yep it’s a real thing, at least in the minds of millions of paper crafters like me) and I couldn’t say no, plus I had a great design in mind based on some text I saw driving along I-70 the other day.
whoops looks like the photo is a bit blurrier than I realized, I took the pic in the waning hours of light Saturday night.
If success really is about who we are(and I so believe that to be true) we owe it to ourselves to be More.
Special thanks to my uber talented photog friend Heather for taking this fun pic.
