Layout of The Week – A total scraplift

Aack – I totally lifted this design, I thought I had pinned it so I could source and now I can’t find.  So sorry, if you know who please let me know and I will fix.  I probably shouldn’t even post, but it turned out so cute I can’t resist. I thought it was such a wonderful use of this OA paper…

My sister married a good man, he built this doll house from scratch for Sienna – complete with crown molding and electricity.  Interestingly enough he is also her first choice for doll house playmates.

Keeping Watch

He never used to be a furniture dog – that was really nice – but at some point in the last six months or so, he has discovered that this a perfect place for him to keep an eye on the neighborhood.  I think he may be making mental notes of all of the squirrel activities so he can plan his attack for when we go outside.

Looking at the photo of this layout, I can’t help but think it’s a perfect reminder of why I’m not a quilter, I can’t sew a straight line to save my life.  I don’t think it looks as bad in person, but then again…

Creative Jumpstart

Are you following this series:  Creative Jumpstart ?  If not and you’re a paper crafting person you totally should be, each morning videos arrive in your inbox with tips and tricks and mountains of inspiration to get us all through the January blahs.  I get so inspired each day I find myself reaching for my art journal…really starting my art journal.

I’ve had this group of blank notebooks that I bought at the MOMA last time I was in New York(um, almost 2 years ago).  I thought they would be the perfect thing to do some ‘warm up work’.

Here’s a sampling of things I did last week:

Cover

Misting and Pen work: I broke out my Copic Markers for this one…

Speaking of Copic Markers…I kind of forgot how much they bleed on regular paper. I sort of love the soft subtle tones on the back side, so I decided to do a quick bit of journaling, before the front side is finished

Note to self

One of my favorite quotes…

I had some scraps lying around my desk and this sticker so I decided to make a quick framed piece for myself

Mercury In Retrograde?

New in my world – a volunteer project.  Every Saturday morning I head out to Zuma’s Ranch and spend two and half hours with this lovely creature

and an equally lovely little girl.  Together we bold over all things girly and horsey.  Such a good fit for my life right now.  One section of the session is about setting goals for the next week, knowing I’ve neglected this little blog for far too long, I set my goal to blog this week and is luck would have it I have a few layouts to share.

It’s no secret I love a good breakfast out and Snooze is my favorite place – lucky for me my sister has fallen in love with their hashbrowns so she makes the drive once a month or so and we have a great time together.

Here’s a quick layout to celebrate the simple tradition

I ♥ Van Morrison

and one of my favorites has always been Tupelo Honey.

Once upon a time(say 2007, maybe 08) I did a guest host for the now defunct(sigh) blog Journaler’s Junction hosted by my fab friends Emily and Heather, my chosen prompt: song lyrics. The ubertalented Lisa Dickinson did a layout using the lyrics from this very song.

Fast forward two years and along comes the May Studio Calico kit with a honey comb paper. Since I haven’t been scrapping much the paper went into the storage bag with little love, then last night I had an idea to cut the paper in the way you see it here and then I noticed the name.

The lightbulb went off…now it was my time to immortalize this great song.

I love it when a plan comes together.

Patterned Paper: Studio Calico, Scenic Route; Alpha: October Afternoon, MME, Making Memories; Big Ass Bling: Pink Paislee

that I had this cute shot of Sienna in Easter Outfit #2 handy was a nice bonus.

Friday Fill-ins and a Layout

1. You get what you deserve.
2. You gotta fight for your right to party. (yep, vintage beastie boys proof my brain can be pretty random)
3. It’s hammer time.
4. That my brain is thinking in musical answers is pretty ridiculous!
5. I feel more of the holiday spirit this year than the past few.
6. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a…goodnight! (ok a little early on that one)

7. And as for the weekend, I vegged Friday night, today my plans include breakfast with Houston and a little crafting and Sunday, I want to watch the Broncos hand it to the Chiefs!

And now for a little layout, pretty happy with the way this one turned out. So many times, I’m afraid to cute paper up, it’s just too cute…That was the case with the blue gingham, the other side looks like a reading primer from the 50’s…after being in the stash for a couple of months, I finally allowed myself to cut it, and I’m so glad I did.
